Amusing and interesting stuff that goes on

Quick update, more silence

Things have been in full throttle to onething09 around here, which, in part, explains my blog silence. I’m hoping to get my weekly posts back in gear come January.

I just wanted to drop a couple of quick updates before the craziness hits tomorrow — kind of a “What’s up” as well as a “What’s on my heart”:

  • If by some phenomenally small chance you read this blog, but don’t also keep up with IHOP-KC local news, please keep the Loux family in your prayers. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, please click over to their blog and read about. And seriously, also pray about giving to them at this time (info on the right side of their blog).
  • I fully expect this conference to be amazing. I expect the Lord to show up in powerful ways and touch many hearts. Please pray that He delivers many from depression, condemnation, self-hatred, and fear, that they may be free on the inside to give 100% to the Lord in confident love and obedience.
  • Especially coming, as it does, right after Christmas, I feel a tremendous burden for our conference attendees to become firmly convinced in the identity and nature of Jesus. There is so much deception in the media today concerning who Jesus is, what He’s like, and how He saves us. I believe this onething09 will be a line in the sand for many, where they have the opportunity to break agreement with the lies of the spirit of this age. I believe many will be awakened to the importance of knowing Christ and Him crucified — Christ, the wisdom of God and power of God, whom the rulers of this age could not comprehend.
  • At onething09, I will be at the eSchool booth most days in the afternoons and evenings. If you read this blog, stop in and say hi! And maybe sign up for a course or two! (Insider information: we have some reduced prices for onething09 attendees. Rock on.)
  • A lot of us at IHOP-KC have been battling various rounds of “the crud” since — oh, I don’t know — October, maybe. Please pray for us, especially as many of us give super long hours to working at the conference, that we would be strengthened and healthy.
  • If you can’t come to Kansas City this year, let Kansas City come to you (so to speak). Go to and look for the banners advertising onething09 for streaming and notes.
  • Starting in January, the IHOP-KC webstream will be free. Yes, completely free. Meaning you can hop on the internet and watch the prayer room at any time. Pretty awesome.
  • Speaking of free, and of awesome, Mike Bickle has a new website up with all kinds of resources — sermons, podcasts, study notes, transcriptions and more — all for free. Check it:

I think that’s it for now — but I hope you had a great Christmas, and hope you get to join us either locally or online for onething09.

O (tiny) Tannenbaum…

Editor’s note: (Oh wait, that’s me)… This post is a week later than I meant for it to be, but I think it’s still worth a publish. 🙂

Oh, mercy. This is going to be one of those sappy sentimental Christmas-y posts.

Yes. Yes it is. Just thought I’d warn you before you click the “Read more”. If you don’t want to read a bit of sappiness (get it…? Tree? Sap?? HA!), check back later. Read the rest of this entry »

There’s that Smell Again!

…And it’s not a pleasant one. Why, I do believe it’s the spirit of this age reeking again.

Allow me to share my story.

A few days ago, I took a vacation day to recover from my crazy-packed-schedule-admin-ness. I hadn’t had a day off in about a month, and it seemed like time to take one. So I found myself with a free day, an untouched gift card from Christmas, and a friend’s wedding coming up this weekend. Seemed like a perfect time to invest in a new dress. Random Words in Random Places

I was thinking today about how I remember where I was and what I was doing when I learned a certain word. Don’t ask me why I was remembering this; I don’t know. But it got me to thinking of other words where I remember the time and context in which I learned them. It seemed like it would make a worthy blog post. So here they are: Read the rest of this entry »

21 Reasons I Really Enjoy My Brother

Today is my no-longer-so-little brother’s birthday! In honor of his twenty-first birthday, I wanted to list 21 reasons I really like this guy:

  1. Weekly talks over Chipotle
  2. A delightfully off-beat sense of humor
  3. He can rock out a rent-a-cop uniform
  4. He gets really excited about running sound
  5. Lots of really bizarre inside jokes that we laugh hysterically at while other people just look at us strangely
  6. He is zealous about what he believes in
  7. He is really, really smart
  8. We can have great conversations about the Word
  9. He’s a very sharp-witted person
  10. He knows a hundred times more about politics than I do
  11. He is a treasure trove of random knowledge
  12. He is a hard worker and has stuck to his jobs with great integrity
  13. Midnight QT runs
  14. He’s big enough and tough enough to beat the living snot out of me, but he doesn’t… even when I’m being annoying.
  15. He’s willing and available to give me a hug when I need it
  16. He cares a lot about justice
  17. He’s a safe person for me to talk to
  18. He unashamedly likes quirky things
  19. He uses the word “Multifarious” at any opportunity he can find
  20. Our conversations frequently turn into horrendous/glorious punnage
  21. Through the twenty-one years that I’ve known him, he’s weathered a lot, is still fighting for righteousness, and loves Jesus.  That’s pretty darn cool.

So happy birthday, Adam. I’m glad you’re my brother.

Four reasons I am really happy right now

Observe the happiness.

Okay, so maybe it’s kind of hard to observe, but that’s because I’m busy downing the contents of that coffee cup, which leads me to the first thing that’s making me really happy: Read the rest of this entry »

My shredder could eat your shredder for breakfast

…or at least eat your music collection for lunch.

Yeah buddy.

It’s pretty much awesome. And to think I at first thought it was silly when I found a warning label clarifying that this shredder was not a toy.

Hee! 🙂
