Four reasons I am really happy right now

Observe the happiness.

Okay, so maybe it’s kind of hard to observe, but that’s because I’m busy downing the contents of that coffee cup, which leads me to the first thing that’s making me really happy: Continue reading ‘Four reasons I am really happy right now’

Daniel 4 – part two

We last left King Nebuchadnezzar at a bit of a cliffhanger, with an ominous dream and a tenderly spoken prophecy of warning. What would become of this great king?

The Bible actually doesn’t leave us wondering for long. “All this came upon King Nebuchadnezzar” (Dan 4:28).

For twelve months, the Lord tarried. Twelve months, no judgment fell. Perhaps Nebuchadnezzar had grown a little overconfident in that time period. Maybe he assumed he had dodged the bullet. Maybe he had persuaded himself that his most reliable advisor was wrong, just this once. There’s a first time for everything, after all. This powerful monarch failed to realize that the longsuffering of the Lord is for our salvation. Continue reading ‘Daniel 4 – part two’

Daniel 4 – Those Who Walk in Pride He is Able to Put Down

It’s been a while since I’ve written about the book of Daniel. If you’re new to my blog you can read my thoughts on the first three chapters here.

Chapter 4 is definitely amazing because of its content, but what is even more amazing to me is who wrote it. Nebuchadnezzar writes (most of) this chapter in first person. While at first it may not seem like that big of a deal, remember who this man is. This is the ruler who was so anxious over his kingdom in chapter 2 that he was ready to execute his entire advisory staff for fear of a dream bearing a bad omen. This is the same person who threw a tantrum over three young Hebrews who wouldn’t bow down to the image he had set up. Now, in chapter 4, he is willingly broadcasting the story of his humiliation to his entire kingdom. He “thought it good to declare the signs and wonders [i.e. his own humbling] that the Most High God has worked for [him]” (v.2), praising the powerful God whose kingdom really does last forever. Folks, we are looking at a drastically changed man. Continue reading ‘Daniel 4 – Those Who Walk in Pride He is Able to Put Down’

A Preemptive Petition Which is Well Worth Signing

As we continue to keep our president elect in prayer, we also want to take a clear stand on righteousness. Americans United for Life (AUL) has an online position against the Freedom of Choice Act that I would encourage many of you to sign. Check it out here.

Two Hours

I spent two hours standing in line this morning (6:30-8:30am) to cast a single vote.

I spent two hours in intercession this morning (4-6am) moving things in the heavens.

Guess which two hours made a bigger mark on the direction of this nation?

The votes may be in already but our biggest impact is still to be made. Keep praying, people.

WE Have sinned; WE need mercy

As I stare at the elections which will be upon us in less than 24 hours, I have a few things on my heart. Mainly, right now, I’m thinking about how we are posturing our hearts towards this.

Christians, when we’re praying for the church, we aren’t praying for them; we’re praying for us.

American Christians, when we’re praying for this nation, we aren’t praying for them; we’re praying for us.

Today I heard a phrase from a wonderful, solid believer who was repenting before God ”on behalf of those in the church who value their finances over justice.” I completely understand what this person meant by this; if your pocketbook is doing the voting for you, that’s a serious problem. However, as I heard these words, I was immediately struck with the thought: this is all of us. Continue reading ‘WE Have sinned; WE need mercy’
